Camellia and a big get together

Time is flying away so fast. I have had topics to write here but have been too busy to do that. One of them is regarding the big earth quake we have had 12 years ago. Maybe, before the anniversary comes, I may mention about it.

Camellia is coming out. Such a big camellia tree. While I was doing things busily, the flowers won't come into my eyes. Around sunset today, it was shining so beautifully that I could recognize it.

In close up.

In further close up. An elegant and gentle flower.

Tomorrow, there will be visitors at our home, my sister, her two children, the spouse of niece, and a first cousin and her son. What a big company! Another first cousin was living at the old house of my mother's family. But he has passed away this winter. They have decided to break down the house. It was the place I and my wife used to visit for Christmas ceremony in our honey moon days. But no one would take it over. No choice other than giving it up.

Only few are visiting this blog, I believe. But just to testify I am doing OK.

  1. I understand it is necessary to clear the fallen blossoms from the ground, but i can't remember why. I had a big camellia at a house in Berkeley.

    1. Someone who used to live in Berkeley? Steve, TMW? Anyway, camellia tells us spring is right here. I hope everything is fine with you and yours all, especially, Kosen girl.

  2. Hello, I just wanted to say that I admire your beautiful camellia. I am continuing to enjoy your interesting blog. I am the daughter of N4DAG of the Seattle area who has gone silent key in 2021. I am also a cellist.

We had a sudden deep freeze this year in Alabama that caused us to lose all the camellia blossoms for the spring. The tea olives lost all their leaves. They are growing back now and it is a beautiful sight. Wishing you much joy in your garden.

    1. Susan,

Thanks a lot for your comment. A sad news that you have lost your father, Dave. My log says we have had QSOs often from 2014 through 2017. He was a psychiatrist, possibly retired by then and was enjoying driving trip with his wife, right? I still remember his CW fist from a bug. I hope your mother and family have been relieved for losing him. He might be around 80 years of age. I still miss him.

You are a professional cellist, aren't you? As you might read in the past posts in this blog, I am only an amateur since school days and haven't played it for a year and a half due to hands issue. Now I love listening to music a lot. As a cellist or a music lover, what music/composer are you fond of? I often listen to chamber music of Faure, Beethoven, Brahms and modern French composers. Bach is a special musician for me as well. Visit here often and tell me your stories.

    2. In addition, congratulations to you on taking over his hobby. It's wonderful and might have made Dave pleased so much.

    3. Hi Shin,

My apologies for my long delay in finding your kind message earlier. I’m not very experienced with Blogspot so I didn’t get a notification of your reply.

Thank you for your memories of my father David. Yes, he was a wonderful counselor with a lot of compassion and insight. He had an amazing healing presence and he helped a lot of people in life-changing ways. I am so lucky to have had him in my life. His wife Dava has sold the motor home now and is enjoying being at home. They enjoyed taking trips to the ocean. Dava is doing better than I expected. Dave was often involved in the radio club contests because he was so good with the bug. I miss him a lot. We lived on opposite sides of the country so I was not able to be near him.

I am very happy to be working as a cello teacher, and teacher of music theory. I was a nurse practitioner in my first career but it was stressful. I played the cello since I was a child, and there was a need for a teacher here. I play in a couple of local orchestras and in a string quartet for weddings and special choral programs. My husband plays violin and is in the quartet with me. He is a retired English professor.

One of the challenges is that young people often want pop music arrangements for their weddings. It doesn’t always translate well to string quartet. A piece I recently played is Supplication by Ernest Bloch. I love Bach too! He was a great friend to cellists!

Thank you again for your blog and your thoughtfulness. I will try to learn how to use the Blogspot better. Happy summer!!

    4. Susan,

Your comment reply has pleased me a lot however belated it was. Please leave some words in this blog when you feel you would. Recollection of your father, your favorite music etc. I won't care for pop music arranged for quartet, either! If you should have any video in youtube of your performance, let me know of that.

I have been terribly busy at garden farm now. A lot of harvest of potatoes at present. Tiring but still a pleasure.

      Thanks again for your comment.

  3. Hi Shin,

Thanks very much for your kindness. I appreciate reading your thoughts on music and gardening and the change of seasons. Also in America we deal with political spectacle when sober leadership is most needed. I am still hopeful however. I forgot who quipped, “They will do the right thing when all other alternatives are exhausted.”

I have been busy in my garden, painting the shed and mulching to keep out the weeds. In the shed were some old metal reindeers for Christmas decorations. I painted them lime green and put them out in the yard. I was looking for some metal pins to keep them from falling over. On a bookshelf nearby, I happened by chance to find a book I hadn’t read in a long time. It is The Book of Tea by Kakuzo Okakura. Inside is an inscription, “To Susan From David in Summer ‘84 for peace and unity”. I feel it is a blessing from the beyond. How interesting that I rediscovered this book at this time! I remember that David was always kind and supportive of me. He had a lot of curiosity and enthusiasm. There was never enough time to do all he wanted to do, but he stayed active (present) in the moment. I feel that is the secret of life.

Well, it is morning for me now and I have a few garden chores to do. Thank you again and I will be in touch more often.

    1. Susan,

Thanks for your most impressive comment. I could picture how you are getting along at the shed and at the garden. Okakura's book sounds great. It was a gift your OM gave to you almost 40 years ago. For "peace and unity"! There could never be better thing you might find out at present, Susan.

Take some photos of your garden etc and send them to me through the e mail if you have some free time. I would appreciate
      it so much.

Take care and stay being peaceful.

PS; I sometimes get lazy reading comments. Please don't feel bad at me if I keep your comment unanswered for some time. I always check them in certain interval.
