A real party on the air

A typhoon is coming by here. Lots of rain. Noise due to this rain has been waxing and waning this morning. I have been on 15m this morning, where I was bothered with that noise. I could not grab some weak signals there. Sorry for that. Without that noise, I could have caught them for sure.

In BW QSO Party since yesterday, however, I have had very nice chats with old friends. Like Dick K4XU, Vic WA6MCL Jim KF7E or Don WB6BEE. It was a real party on the radio. It is always good for me to renew our friendships. I have met Dick twice in person, Vic once and Don in the near future. I enjoy hearing how they have been doing through QSOs. It is a very simple thing to greet and talk how each of us is getting along but is still so valuable in our lives.

It is still raining hard. I quit getting on the radio and will go out for special meal with my wife for her birthday. She is as young as Jim KF7E now. The photo shows our garden through the window of my shack.

  1. Shin, Sorry I missed you in the BW this weekend. I made 228 FOC contacts which was 31 more than in the March QP. Did you get the two scans I sent you?

    1. I was not very serious at the BW. Enjoyed chatting with old friends. See you for a plain QSO. What scans? I have not received them yet.

    2. Shin,
Perhaps my emails are not getting through. I sent scans of two chapters via email of a small book about cats. I also sent several other emails about health care and related topics. Perhaps they went into your spam file. Will you please check?

  2. Hi Shin, I did catch you twice, once on 40 and again on 15. Both contacts with you were a nice break from the hard work of chasing FOC contacts. Not as good as Dennis, but I got 102 with full night's sleep. Only 100 without you.

I trust you treated Chiaki to a fine lunch with special Virginia tomato...I always have to consider that getting old is better than the other option.

    1. Don,

I will pass the proverb from you ro Chiaki that says getting old is better than the other option. I would have written an article for my wife quoting the poem by Browning, I have already written about somewhere in this blog. You are more positive to life than Browninng, who tells us just to accept old age as it is without any fear.

Sorry all the tomatoes might have fallen by this typhoon! I will prepare fresh salad for lunch. I was very happy that radish and lettuce I had planted a few days ago already sprouted.

I will see you with your new antenna. That W5GI antenna looks like a modified G5RV. ZS6BKW seemed to design that type of antenna. I am not very good at antenna designe but am wondering if that design compromises the efficiency. Especially, the ribbon feeder portion might radiate RF and makes some loss, I am afraid. Full sized dipoles in parallel fed with the same coax might work better. Let's go on discussing about it on the air!

  3. Don,
Lunch would not do it in our case. I better plan for something more "upscale." Luckily, it's not a contest weekend! I do have a special gift in mind for the XYL's birthday. I can miss everything else, but not THAT one...coming up soon on September 30.

Heard you in the BW on 15, but not strong enough to work and that is a tough path from Ohio.

You are profound in identifying the difference in expectations from our world to Shin's. But, we don't know. It could have been an extraordinary lunch in a rather divine, romantic place. And, in opposition to our materialist world, an afternoon with her wonderful husband may be been the most perfect gift for Chiaki.

Just some thoughts from an old guy in Colorado

    1. We belong to low scale here. Only a sushi lunch and shopping some books etc were sufficient to please her. Not so romantic either...but that is the way we spend such a day! Late at night, we have enjoyed the performance of Lucern Festival Orchestra conducted by Abbado on TV program, rumoring Abbado got a bit older etc. A peaceful BD!

    2. Candidly, a wonderful birthday, in my humble opinion.

  5. Sorry was missing in action. Spent the last week in the hospital with my XYL. She is stable and recovering from a severe seizure. No new bleeding from her previous hemorrhagic stroke, which is important. Jim.
