My sister, 4 years older than me, often sends something commemorative for us. She may be looking around old photos or things our parents have left.
Today, it was a copy of father's note book that sister had enclosed in the mail. He had brought it with him in the 2nd military service. It was not allowed to take Bible with him in the service and he has transcribed sentences from Bible on it. That was what I had heard from father or some family member. Long time ago.
On a page, his fiance, that is, our mother, has written words for farewell. In addition to the ordinary words of farewell, she wrote Psalm 46;1 to 3.
Surprisingly, it was exactly the epitaph father had chosen decades later. I don't know if he has discussed with mother about what to engrave as the epitaph on the tomb stone newly built near here. She was in early stage of Alzheimer. Maybe, he has chosen it by himself.
The 9th verse itself could be taken an ideology against war. Of course, mother did not extend her message to that verse. I just wonder and should have asked mother why she had selected this psalm.
I won't boast my parents. They have had defects as human. But I am still amazed to know they have lived in the same belief in Christianity as this episode tells. I am just proud of that despite of their faults in lives. If I could see them someday, I would tell them I was proud of them and was happy to be one of their children.
Wonderful Shin!
