Pleasant QSOs

I woke up early in the morning when it got bright outside. It was starting another cold and quiet day here. Bringing toastes and coffee in ths shack, I started watching 15m. It was wide open to the US. There were a couple of pile ups going on. Apart from that mess, I started calling CQ.

A number of friends have given me calls in a row. A friend in New England told me what a blizzard they had had there and, despite of that snowy storm, he had walked 3km this morning, wearing a coat, a muffler and a hat. He was pleased to tell me his wife had called him crazy. Another guy reported about the latest result of his cancer check up. No signs of recurrence. He will finish his treatment protocol in 3 more courses. He and his family must have been relieved a lot. I felt thrilled when he started telling me about it like the result was and so forth. I wished him very good luck for the rest of the treatment. A guy would see our mutual friends for the very first time when he comes back to the west Coast from the mid US where he has been on duty for months. I have pictured of their eye ball over there.

And a few more interesting QSOs. What a wonderful hobby ham radio is! This slow and unexpected mode of communication would give us much pleasure when we could share our lives in the short communications. I felt thankful to all I met today. It is still worth spending some time and some energy to be on looking for those friends. May we be blessed having such QSOs throughout our lives. I am sure ham radio won't die if such communication would go on.

  1. Shin: Thank you for the nice QSO today on 20 meters CW. I thoughts about CW are similar to yours. I find that I can actually "ragchew" better on CW than SSB. CW is not irrelevant to me, even if it is no longer required, it is the most interesting way to communicate in ham radio. I saw something interesting on television recently: A young person with a cell phone sent the same text message that a ham operator did using CW. The result? The CW message was delivered faster than the text! Thanks much and 73, Keith "KC" K3ZL

    1. Hi KC,

Nice to hear you on the radio and later in the internet. I should have added on the QSO with you. Beacause your Coffin Bug was so impressive. That model was quite popular in Japan in '60s when I started radio. It has brought me back to those days. CW has been my love since then. I would catch you again soon.

Yes, I have ever seen that program in the internet. CW won't beat the internet at all, though. CW makes it possible for us to know each other much more than the internet. It lasts long. Quite meaningful.

      See you again soon.

  2. It's nice to just get on the rig from time to time and enjoy just chatting...no contest pileups, no DXCC hunt just a nice conversation.

  3. I am a CW illiterate but you and Ellen, W1YL, have inspired me. I have been a ham for over 50 years now and am practicing. Love your blog and hope to get good enough to make a contact someday.

  4. Shin ---- It was wonderful to chat with you for such a long time on CW today.... Thanks for slowing down for me.... I must get my CW skills better....Your blog is wonderful....Yes a trio with your daughter would be great... Many person get involved with their careers and school and have to give up music for a while, however when they get time it often comes back. Almost every flute player I play with, including my teacher, has stopped playing for several years at one time.... Do not worry, I am sure your Cello and her violin will again be heard together....You are wise to just give her time to get her life a bit settled... I look forward to seeing you on the air again.... THANKS

    1. Walt,

Thanks a lot for the nice chat. I scarecely have such a nice one recently. When you repeat "R" for 5 or 6 times prior to your transmitting message, it sounded you had fully agreed with me, which was very pleasant to me.

Yes, our daughter may recall of violin when she finishes studying for her career. if I could do a trio with her then, it must be a pleasure. If not, it might be another fun to listen to her playing it.

See you again for another chat again soon. Again, thanks for the nice QSO.

  5. Shin,
so pleased you are finding good ops to chat with. Propagation from JA to USA is much better than from 9V. In the mornings I hear nothing on the higher bands. It is a struggle. But we live in hope that the sunspots will improve.
Had lunch with James / 9V1YC the other day and he is still very active but mostly only for contests. He agrees with me that the openings for good ragchews are very few from 9V.
All the best and keep blogging.

    1. John,

I have not heard you yet since you came home. Just keep getting on the air. I will catch you very soon.

An event has kept me a bit inactive in blogging and in operating radio. But I am coming back to the normal routine. Very fine on James. I haven't heard him on the radio either. Is he still keeping a sked with Jim W6YA on 40m?

Anyway, enjoy your vacation. I hope you are completely well with the fracture for now. See you.
